Inventory of Archaeological Sites in Western Algeria

This project aims to establish a geolocated inventory of archaeological sites located in western Algeria, particularly in the wilayas of Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbès, Aïn Témouchent, Mascara, and Relizane.

The covered periods range from prehistory (caves, tumuli, rock engravings) to the medieval Islamic era, including the Numidian, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

The project's objectives are to:
  • Identify and geolocate each site using differential GPS and GIS tools
  • Create a standardized descriptive record (name, type, dating, state of conservation, bibliographic sources)
  • Cross-reference photographic, archival, and bibliographic data
  • Develop a digital interface for consultation (mid-term web-GIS)
  • Collaborate with museums, cultural directorates, researchers, and local institutions

This project will help centralize often scattered data, guide conservation efforts, and raise awareness among local populations.
